Gram Oorja fulfils the electricity, cooking fuel and water needs of tribal communities in the remote regions of India using PV micro-grids, biogas based cooking grids and solar pumps. Gram Oorja is a strong promoter of renewable energy for rural communities.

Gram Oorja was established on 24th April, 2008 by young entrepreneurs, who believed that sustainable energy in its various forms would become even more mainstream and would have an increasingly significant role to play in the rural context. The founders are from premier institutions like the IITs and IIMs and with experience in social, financial and energy sectors
Gram Oorja has won the Millennium Alliance Round 3, held on 14th April 2016 in New Delhi.
Gram Oorja has been awarded as Runner-up in the 2016 Smart Villages Off-grid energy impact competition for India in recognition for contributions to Rural Energy Access in India.
