Gram Oorja believes that rural energy needs can be fulfilled from local resources. This will lower the dependence of rural India on the fossil fuel based systems making them self-sufficient with respect to their own energy needs. Gram Oorja has already been active in rural energy solutions and has successfully implemented more than hundred renewable energy projectsimpacting the lives of close to 30,000 villagers. Learning from experiences in rural India, Gram Oorja has proposed a unique solution of a Biogas based cooking grid, which will be used to provide cooking gas to every household in the community.

A biogas grid is one where there is a central biogas plant in the village where all the cow dung is deposited by the villagers daily. This biogas is then transferred using a pipeline to each household, where the flow is measured and the pressure is regulated, in order to provide a satisfying cooking experience.
